It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Jillian Michaels. I love her tough training style with her kick-ass attitude and I’ve watched with admiration as her career grew from strength to strength through the years. Jillian pushed long and hard to prove that she was more than just an uber-tough trainer by consistently reinventing herself. Now known as an uber-passionate health and wellness expert, her wealth of knowledge in the field of ‘LIFE’ is impressive. With no limitations to her reach, it should come as no surprise that adding ‘Mommy’ to her lengthy resume was simply the next step in the process.
In true Jillian Michaels style, she’s gone bootcamp mommy! Following a lengthy adoption process Jillian recently brought her little girl Lukensia home from Haiti. In the same week her partner Heidi gave birth to their son Phoenix. Double whammy! Congratulations Mommy’s.
I met Jillian back in March at the Get Radical Women’s conference and noticed a profound transformation. While speaking about her journey into parenting, she oozed a warmth we don’t often see in the media. I witnessed a gentle, nurturing, vulnerable side – hallelujah the girl is normal!
I love that during a very intimate and personal time in her life with the birth of their son and the arrival of their adopted daughter she made the choice to speak publicly about her relationship with her female partner. Being a parent puts life into perspective for you. You question what is important in your life and the influence you have over your children with the choices you make. In the scheme of it all, whom you choose to love should bear no relevance to your ability to raise a family.
I can’t help but feel a sense of pride when I see someone of celebrity status that I admire, known for her healthy wholesome living, in a healthy gay relationship, with the opportunity to raise healthy happy children. You can take this any way you like, but this is progress!
Thanks for being a part of the change we need to see in the world girls.
